Residential property taxes will be coming down in 2018 by 1.2 %
The decrease in property taxes was approved by Okotoks Town Council on April 23rd. If you own a $450,000 this will mean your taxes will drop from $3,569 to $3,528 in 2018.
Although taxes are going down Okotoks will be hiring an additional 4 firefighters for the South Fire Hall and the Town will be hiring planning staff who will be working on future Town growth and development.
The 2018 taxes will see $290,000 set aside for setting up an on-demand public transit service. The Town is also planning to replace the Laurie Boyd pedestrian bridge in Sheep River Park and this will cost $2.7 million dollars.

Okotoks Recycling Program
The Town of Okotoks and the people who live in this amazing town are on track to meet the 80% material diversion target from the landfill by 2020. The full plan can be downloaded here
Twelve months after introducing a mandatory curbside recycling program for all Okotoks home owners, the waste material diversion has increased by more than 30%.
Back in October 2016, every home in Okotoks was provided with a blue recycling cart and a green organics recycling cart to go with our normal black waste cart. When the new carts were delivered all Okotoks residents were given an opt out option and less than 2% opted out. This means Okotokian’s are very green and we take our waste disposal very seriously.

Top Realtor Tips to sell your Okotoks Home
The home buying process starts the moment a buyer pulls up outside your property. Make sure the grass is cut or the driveway and path is cleared of snow. If it’s an evening showing and you have outside light, switch them on as lights are welcoming. Make sure windows and doors are clean and any flaking paint has been touched up. Don’t leave flyers or local papers piling up by the door. Hanging flower baskets can add a lovely touch of colour.
De-clutter and clean
The first thing any seller should do is declutter and clean the home. A decluttered home makes the home appear much larger and this is more inviting to a potential home buyer. A decluttered home is also much easier to keep clean as it only takes a few minutes to run round with a duster and vacuum.
