Spring Cleaning Tips

The winter of 2014/15 will be remembered as one of the mildest Canadian winters we have experienced in quite some time. This weather makes us feel that spring will arrive any day now.  Unfortunately, spring weather ushers in the inevitable tasks of spring cleaning – those not so fun chores that need to get done to keep your house in tip top shape year after year.

With these mild temperatures, why not get an early jump on those daunting spring cleaning tasks that need to get done?  Here are some tips to get your spring cleaning on its way.

Start with the Closets

Spring cleaning can seem overwhelming, so why not start with something easy- closets. Time to put away some of your cold weather gear and get rid of anything that you are not using on a somewhat regular basis. Organize the rest of your closet to make every day routines that much simpler. This quick task will make your closet more appealing, make you feel great and get the ball rolling for more spring cleaning.

Moving on to Carpets

Clean carpets make for a clean home. A quick vacuum can do wonders for a home and make you feel better about taking your shoes off and walking around in your socks. While you’re at it, pull all of the furniture away from the wall, get under those usually neglected spaces and vacuum up the year’s worth of forgotten dust bunnies and old cobwebs.

Even better than a quick vacuum is a steam clean – you can do this yourself or hire professionals for the job. Steam cleaning will give your carpets a far longer lifespan and will greatly reduce the dust and dirt lurking in those carpet fibers.

Don’t Forget the Hardwood

If you are going to clean your carpets, you can’t neglect the hardwood. A quick sweep and mop will keep your hardwood looking like new. A wood restoring product such as Murphy’s wood oil is a must-have and can be added to the mop water. This product will restore and protect your hardwood floors.

Now for the Rest of the House

Finally, give up a day or two to clean your home from top to bottom. This includes dusting your home, washing down your walls, removing stains from counters and any other small tasks you have neglected over the winter months. Do not forget your bathrooms, paying special attention to bath tubs, toilets and sinks.

These few tips will keep your home looking beautiful and there is just something to be said about living in a clean home.
